We’re a little bit famous (just kidding)

A year at this new location and so many exciting things have happened along the way. And you, yes you are such an important part of this cake journey. So thank you. And because you’re family, I wanted to share a few of the exciting experiences and achievements we’ve had because our victories are your victories too. 2020 has been a challenging year for many. We closed business for six weeks, and it truly is a miracle that we were able to re-open and keep all our staff. Nevertheless, 2020 has also been a year of great learning and opportunity.

We Like Cake on The Morning Show

We recently had the privelege of being featured on E-tv’s The Morning Show, highlighting the story of how I moved from getting into the complex layers of human beings, to the complex, but sweet layers of cake. If you know me, while I may be talkative and a ball of energy, I’m actually pretty shy, so this was both nerve wracking but also so much fun. Truthfully, I wanted 2020 to be about stepping outside my comfort zone, and this was definitely well outside my comfort zone. The experience was fun, I got to meet some incredible and talented people, and I also had an opportunity to honour my mom, who’s been a key part of my success. The segment also provided an opportunity for you to get a sneak peek of the store, if you have not had a chance to pop by.

If you haven’t yet seen it, here’s the link to the interview with The Morning Show.

Accelerator Programmes

We also have had the opportunity to be shortlisted and selected by two incredible entrepreneur accelerator programmes, namely The Hive (formerly known as the J & B Hive) and The Anzisha Prize.

The Hive is a community for creative entrepreneurs, providing tailored support and access to resources creative entrepreneurs need to grow their businesses. The Anzisha Prize is an entrepreneur support programme for very young entrepreneurs (18-22), across the African continent. Through various offerings the programme works to strengthen the ventures of these individuals, deepen impact and help to cultivate a support network to position entrepreneurship as a viable career option.

This year we also launched our internship programme which allowed us to take in young people with a passion for learning and a desire to develop their skills, as we provide an intimate but dynamic learning environment. We have hosted five interns to date for periods ranging from 3 months to 12 months, across different departments including marketing, sales and product development. Some of my greatest lessons were learned as intern at a restaurant in Braamfontein, and I love that we get to do the same for others.

2020 has indeed been eventful. As We Like Cake draws closer to it’s 3rd birthday in September, there is so much to celebrate and so much to be thankful for. Thank you for the memories, and for letting us be a part of your celebrations. Here’s to many more incredible moments. Excuse me while I go grab a slice of cake.
